A Taste of Home: Crafting Each Meal With Care

Did you know that January is National Soup Month? Well, here at Saybrook Landing, we celebrate soup all year round with homemade soups in our dining room at lunchtime during the week. With our restaurant-style dining experience, soup provides nourishment while residents await their main course at their table. Thanks to our amazing Dietary Team, they create personalized meals based on the resident's preferences and dietary goals. They bring the taste of home right to their table!

For many residents, they don't just look forward to the personalized and delicious meals, they come to our dining room to socialize with new and old friends. Larry G., who used to eat in his room, now comes down to the dining room sharing, "I like to come down because I can order what I want and socialize with other people." "Wedding soup and the homemade chicken noodle soup are my favorites. They're very good," shared another resident, Ialeen C. "I like the whole atmosphere of eating with other people because it's so home-like."



We have many popular soups that the residents look forward to year-round! Marlene expressed, "The potato soup with bacon and vegetable beef is my favorite! That's why I love coming to the dining room." And Priscilla M. said, "I love coming to the dining room for the camaraderie. You know, the people that you get to know and visit with on a daily basis." Another grateful resident, Diana T., said, "I like to come down to get a bowl of the Soup of the Day!"

Besides Soup of the Day, Saybrook also offers a select menu for residents who wish to choose different entrees and sides. This list includes items such as hot dogs, hamburgers or cheeseburgers, cottage cheese and a fruit platter, chef salad, chicken noodle soup, french fries, fruit cups, and so on.

Our Dietary Team takes it a step further by implementing a Resident Choice Meal once or twice a month where Wendy, the Dietary Manager, randomly selects a resident to choose all aspects of the meal, including the dessert. At times, she will discuss the Resident Choice Meal at the Dietary Committee meetings where residents' voices are heard and valued. This is where they can select a meal as a group, any specific preferences, or ideas for any upcoming holiday meals too. They often try to select something they don't have very often and even love to be surprised.

It's important that our residents are getting delicious meals that remind them of the tastes of home while they stay at our skilled nursing facility. Our Dietary Team works hard to provide personalized meals based on their preferences so they can continue living their life to the fullest.
